Navigating the App

Find your way around the Kognific workspace.

The sidebar on the left is your main navigation:

  • Search - opens the command palette
  • Library - your full list of sources
  • Projects - your research projects
  • Ask AI - library-wide AI chat (Pro plan)
  • Tags - your tags for cross-cutting categories
  • Settings - opens the settings panel

Below the navigation, the sidebar also shows:

  • Pinned projects - up to five pinned projects appear here for quick access, along with a View All link
  • Tags - your full tag list, each with a color dot if assigned

At the bottom you'll find:

  • Settings button
  • User menu - your avatar, name, and email. Click to access Toggle Theme and Sign Out

Command palette

Press Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux) to open the command palette. From here you can:

  • Jump to any page (Library, Projects, Ask AI, Settings)
  • Open a specific project
  • Toggle between light and dark themes

Source detail view

Click any source in your Library to open it. On desktop, the detail view has two parts:

  • Left - the source content (PDF reader, audio player, video player, article text, or image viewer)
  • Right - a panel with three tabs:
    • Details - metadata, AI analysis (summary, key findings, concepts), reading status, tags, user notes, and formatted citations
    • Annotations - your highlights and notes on this source
    • Ask AI - chat with AI about this specific source

On mobile, the tabs are available as slide-up sheets from the header buttons.

Top bar

A breadcrumb trail at the top of each page shows where you are. Use it to navigate back to parent sections.

Theme

Kognific supports light, dark, and system themes. Toggle between them from the user menu at the bottom of the sidebar, or through the command palette.
