Tags
Label and categorize your sources with tags.
Tags are flexible labels you can apply to any source. Use them for cross-cutting categories like methodology, topic area, or reading priority.
Creating a tag
Click the + button next to "Tags" in the sidebar. An input field appears inline where you can type a name and press Enter. You can also create tags on the fly from the tag picker when tagging a source.
Tagging a source
Open a source and go to the Details tab. In the Tags section, click to add a tag. A searchable list of all your tags appears. Select any tag to apply it, or click again to remove it.
If you type a name that doesn't match any existing tag, a "Create" option appears so you can make a new tag right there.
Tag colors
Each tag can have an optional color. Tags with colors display a colored dot in the sidebar and on source badges.
Filtering by tag
Use the filter menu in your Library to filter sources by tag. You can also filter by tags within a project's Sources tab.
Deleting a tag
Deleting a tag removes it from all sources that have it applied.
Tags vs. projects
| Tags | Projects | |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | Flat labels | Grouped collections with tabs |
| Best for | Cross-cutting categories (methodology, status, topic area) | Distinct research efforts (thesis, course, grant) |
| Examples | "qualitative", "to-read", "neuroscience" | "Thesis Chapter 3", "Grant Proposal" |
Use both together for the most flexible organization.
